Brother "A" First Day in Parliment

I personally dislike Parlimentary duties. Mostly because I had to spend the whole day listening to bickering, trashing, name-calling and bad jokes. However 13 oct 2008 was a bit different as the Parlimentary session reconvened after a long break and on that day Datuk Seri Anwar presented his speech for the first time as the Opposition leader on the Budget. Just imagine .. I didn't realised all the hoo haa until all of the sudden it was so hard to get a parking at the Parliment that day... (duhh!).

As a Sarawakian who later spent the rest of her growing up years in Sabah, I didn't follow much on West Malaysian politics. All I can remember about this man was he was then the Deputy Prime Minister who had great influence over many of West Malaysian students in my uni and student politicians/leaders all over Malaysia back in 1997/1998. When he got sacked by Tun Mahathir, Tun had to come over to our then "humble" new campus in Teluk Likas to explain to us why he did what he did.

However, thanks to Datuk Seri Anwar I got the chance to meet Tun Mahathir in person for the second time (the first time I was serving him dinner at the VVIP table during my part-timing days in Damai Lagoon). Only this time I sat on the same table with Tun Mahathir and chatted with him. Oh yea, Najib was there too. How do I get the honour? Well, those were my glory days as the Vice-President (Public Relations) of The University Toastmasters Club and Tun want to know how this club can benefits university students (more about Toastmasters visit http://www.toastmasters.org/).

Ok, I had seen how Tun M marvelled and captivated his auditions with his brilliant speeches. But I never heard Datuk Seri Anwar's. Those time all I had was sort of blur and contradicting opinions about him from reading too much of Far Eastern Economic Reviews during the Economic Crisis for my Macroeconomic assignments, Newsweek, Berita Harian and Utusan. Discussions were through chatrooms and online forums there was no such thing as blogging then. Furthermore it was kinda pricey to be cyber savvy.

Anyway, listening to him speaking in the Dewan Rakyat last Monday, I would say I was impressed. He still has the charisma as a politician and leader. But of course, as a "committed" civil servant listening too much of condemnation of the government can be quite a heartsore. As if there is nothing else to say and all civil servants worth a pittance. So I did what I like best during my Parlimentary duties. Surf the Net on free wifi at the lobby with other fellow chatters or bloggers, I guess.

Then suddenly I saw people sitting next and all around me started rushing towards the Press Conference area. Grabbing their pen, notebooks and oohh..cameras?? Drats! I was sitting among lounge suit wearing reporters. Not wanting to look stupid I scambled inside my handbag looking for my digital camera and joined some reporters taking pictures. How do I fare??

Bolehlah...
